About Us
Choking, Strangulation, and Suffocation
The human brain can only survive 4 to 8 minutes without oxygen. We must be able to breathe in order to live. Anything that blocks your airway is blocking your air supply. There are three ways in which your airway can become blocked.

CHOKING happens when something is swallowed that obstructs the airway.

STRANGULATION happens when the airway is compressed.

SUFFOCATION results from being enclosed in something that blocks the intake of air.

  • Learn the Heimlich manuever. Children and adults should know this lifesaving manuever, which has saved countless lives.
  • Cut all drawstrings from your young childrens clothing. Strangulation can happen with drawstrings, pacifier strings, ribbons, necklaces, Toy guitar straps, and more. Cut the bottom of all drapery, blind cords.
  • Kids are at risk from choking on small, round foods like candies, nuts, grapes, popcorn, hot dogs and even marshmallows.
  • Never leave plastic bags of any kind around children.
  • Dryers, refrigeraters, toy boxes, dishwashers and freezers can become deathtraps for children.
