Fire Safety

Most people think that a fire would never happen to them, but the fact is that each year hundreds of thousands of fires happen in homes. Fires are fast, hot, and absolutely unpredictable, but armed with education and preparation, they can be survivable. Everyday we use appliances and things, that have the potential to burn us.

* Have a properly working smoke detector, on every level of your home
*Keep your ovens clean! People are most likely to remove the battery from the smoke detector, when it's being set off due to greasy smoke.
* Be careful with irons, hot curlers and blow dryers. Also turn pot handles to the side.
*Avoid smoking when drowsy.
*Discuss with your family, what to do in a real emergency. Create an escape plan which shows two ways to get out of every room, and where to meet outside.
*Keep things that can catch fire easily, away from any heat source.
*Always assume that your child may be curious about "the fire starters" (matches & lighters). Keep them out of there reach.
