Railroad Crossings
In a competition between a train and a car and man.....the train will
ALWAYS win. Since 1990, more than 5000 people have beeen killed while
trespassing on railroad rights of way and property.
Here are some facts, (source; Operation Lifesaver) which can help cut
back on in these avoidable tragedies.
* Realize that trains cannot stop quickly, and can take a mile or more to
stop.
* Never try to beat the cross rail, when the signal sounds.
* Never drive around lowered gates. If you suspect a signal is
malfunctioning call your local law enforcement agency.
* If your vehicle stalls on a crossing, immediately get everyone out and
far from the tracks. Call your local law enforcement agancy for
assistance.
* ALWAYS EXPECT A TRAIN! Freight trains do not follow set schedules.
