Traffic/Pedestrain Safety
Each year approximately about 8,500 pedestrians are killed. 50,000
children are injured as pedestrians. These numbers can be reduced, if
these simple safety rules are followed.
- Be alert and concentrate on what is happening around you.
- Look carefully in every direction. The golden rule is look left -Right
-left.
- Obey signs and signals. Traffic lights, signs and pedestrian rules are
there to let everyone know what to expect.
- Remember that vehicles usually have the "turn right on red light" law.
Although it is the drivers responsibility to look and wait for
pedestrians, stay alert.
- Be careful getting in and out of parked cars.
- Always walk on the sidewalk, where available.
- Always cross the street at a corner.
- Wear brightly colored or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight at
night.
- Watch and listen for vehicles backing out of driveways.
