Growing up, at least once a year I'd come home from school and every room in the house would be completely changed around. We didn't have the best, but my mother knew how to make the most of her Herculon couches and mix-match pieces. It always felt magical to have a renewed living space, and it taught me that you can enhance a room just by shifting the layout and accessories. I walked into my first thrift shop at the age of 19, had a eureka experience, and since then thrifting has been my passion and hobby, as well as the way I provided for the needs and comfort of my family. My mission is to enhance your properties living environment, while promoting recycling and helping the planet.
With frugal shopping skills and a great eye for design and decorating, I earned the nick name 'The Bargain Queen'. In 2016, I joined KUHS Denver Radio with my weekly talk radio show "Making a Way with Bargain Queen Sheryl Renee" which streamed internationally, every Wednesday for a year. During the pandemic, I utilized that time and got my certification as a professional organizer. Four decades as a professional entertainer, exposed me too stunning venues, homes, and event decor designers, which further fueled my interest in transforming living spaces, and in late 2019, I launched Affordable Room Makeovers, LLC, which was derailed by the pandemic.
After 24 years of visiting and loving Maui, I am delighted to now be a full-time resident, ready to make a positive impact on this amazing island! I'll be documenting and sharing "Relocating on a budget!"
Let's go! In late 2019, I was all set to launch my new business, Affordable Room Makeovers, but the pandemic meant quarantine and stepping back. With things relaxing, I'm excited to introduce a business that's built around my passion for thrifting, interior redesign, and organization. Click here to learn more.
Family Tree Leads to Tulsa Race Massacre Memorial
I went to Tulsa, OK to connect with family, friends and ancestors, for the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. It was an amazing trip! But before I left, I got the chance to share a conversation with professional Journalist/Theatre critic John Moore, (whom I first met in 1988 when he reviewed "Beehive the 60's Musical).
Check out this MooreMedia article on my family history and some revelations found via my ancestry DNA results. It's pretty interesting. "
Thank you, John! It's not lost on me that you have covered most of my life's most significant happenings, these past 30+ years. I appreciate you and the chance to share this story." Denver Gazette article

Celebrating Nina Simone
On Sat. Sept 26, I was joined by Tenia Nelson, Clare Church, and Juli Royster, for Gift of Jazz; Women in Jazz Series salute to the great Nina Simone. This was my first time honoring this icon and it was fantastic. How blessed I was to see her perform live at Chastain Park in Atlanta GA, in May of 2000.

InnovAge Commercial
I'm singing on one of Colorado's most repetitive commercials. Fashioned to the "Cheers" TV theme, it's catchy! Click here
"This Is Us" Episode
A choir hymn, from a CD I produced in NYC, made it onto an episode of the hit TV show "This Is Us" (season 3 episode 6) I was ecstatic to run across it on google! Check it out a clip in videos below
Congratulations Amber & Brandon! I officiated my 1st wedding ceremony and I loved it. I guess 40+ years of being invested in receptions and ceremonies prepared me for a smooth presentation. I sang for them as well!!
The Black Swan Singers
I consider myself a harmonyologist and created this group in 2008, to back live and studio projects. The Balck Swan Singers promises one thing, you will get the best! We are skilled and quick. Mostly a recording session trio, we are also available to provide background vocals for the top of line musical groups. The first call trio consists of myself, studio veteran Carl Carwell, and my vocal soulmate Coco Brown. Click here to book
My Career Highlight - Continues to be,
when I sang the National Anthem at President Barack Obama's Signing of the Economic Stimulus Bill, February 17, 2009. What an honor to meet him and President Joe Biden (then Vice President)
